Scotland’s John Rae demonstrates his drumming excellence in his adopted hometown, Wellington.

It’s only four days now until this year’s brilliant Wellington Jazz Festival kicks off, and yesterday evening that city’s The Rogue & Vagabond hosted one of Scotland’s most famous exports, master drummer, John Rae. Last night at The Rogue and Vagabond he appeared as part of the wonderful Christopher Yeabsley Quartet.
Since moving to New Zealand two decades ago, Rae has filled key roles in the New Zealand jazz community. Scotland’s loss has been New Zealand’s gain. Here in NZ, Rae plays in various bands, several of which will be performing at this year’s festival:
