  • Venezuelan Leo Blanco is no stranger to Scotland. Here is a review by me (FM) of some of the most uplifting sounds you could ever wish to hear, in his new album ‘Stories Without Words’. As appeared today on London Jazz News webzine.
  • Burns Night tomorrow 25th January, so in Burns’ honour here is the SNJO’s instrumental version of the very beautiful ‘My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose’, with spoken intro and recitation by Tommy Smith himself!
  • Panel session on Brexit : 1400 GMT on 28 January 2021. Should be very interesting !
  • A wee snippet of fantastic music from this superb Edinburgh-based band: Trio HLK!!
  • “Jazz speaks for life….This is triumphant music.” – Martin Luther King Jnr (1964)
  • These transcriptions of animal sounds by composer & teacher Alexander Liebermann are amazing. (And what an effort to have done this!)
  • PRS Foundation: deadlines for funding applications.

Cowdenbeath’s most famous jazz export, the late baritone saxophonist Joe Temperley achieved great success on both sides of the Atlantic, a particular claim to fame being his recruitment by Wynton Marsalis, to become a founder member of the renowned Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in New York. Is there anything more beautiful than his signature rendition, on bass clarinet, of Ellington’s ‘Single Petal Of The Rose’? 🙂
A laudable enterprise: The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra is to launch a charity single, ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ this Saturday 18 July 2020, Nelson Mandela Day. Any donations will go to the Nelson Mandela Scottish Memorial Foundation. →
