Launch of new Scottish Jazz online radio show!!
Spicy L’ll Devils: this’ll be a fun one! At Edinburgh’s The Jazz Bar, kick off at 9.15pm this Wednesday 9th April.
The very excellent Scottish National Jazz Orchestra with the fabulous Trilok Gurtu, last weekend in The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh. What tremendous music this was, not least Gurtu’s mind-blowing solo!
Brilliant gig yesterday at St Bride’s Centre, as part of Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival’s mini festival, NOVUS. Pianist Chris Lyons’ gorgeous improvisations on piano were followed by an arrestingly beautiful set from Phil Bancroft’s Beautiful Storm, with Gyan Singh and Graeme Stephen.
Aberdeen Jazz Festival returns from 13–23 March 2025, and thanks to funding support from The National Lottery through Creative Scotland & Aberdeen City Council, it’s bigger than ever.
DJ-Producer Rebecca Vasmant, who is increasingly a fabulous ambassador for Scottish jazz, has released a single last Thursday: ‘Rooted.’

The vivid memory of a white-robed Cecil Taylor darting crab-style across a concert hall stage, to then deliver a quite astonishing solo piano set, appeared in this listener’s mind when hearing for the first time this sparkling new album from English pianist and organist Alexander Hawkins.
