  • Brilliant gig yesterday at St Bride’s Centre, as part of Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival’s mini festival, NOVUS. Pianist Chris Lyons’ gorgeous improvisations on piano were followed by an arrestingly beautiful set from Phil Bancroft’s Beautiful Storm, with Gyan Singh and Graeme Stephen.
  • Aberdeen Jazz Festival returns from 13–23 March 2025, and thanks to funding support from The National Lottery through Creative Scotland & Aberdeen City Council, it’s bigger than ever.
  • DJ-Producer Rebecca Vasmant, who is increasingly a fabulous ambassador for Scottish jazz, has released a single last Thursday: ‘Rooted.’

Likewise the Edinburgh International Festival has much to keep music fans with a spare bob or two happy, with lots of Names performing, such as (the all quite marvelous) Anna Meredith, Fatoumata Diawara, Kokoroko, Moses Boyd, The Comet Is Coming and Thundercat.

One such is East Lothian contemporary/ world guitarist, Simon Thacker’s new Live or Online show, Pashyanti on Guitar. “Pashyanti [Sanskrit]: the junction point between the ordinary waking state and pure consciousness.” Details & tix below.
Meanwhile Scots continue to make waves in London: Scottish trumpeter in ascendency Sean Gibbs Launches his album “When Can I See You Again?” at The Vortex Jazz Club a week today Friday 20th August 2021.
