63. I cann’t believe I haven’t yet featured the great Alyn Cosker in this page’s current ‘Quarantine Series’ yet! So many really strong tracks to choose from, however this sunny tribute to the late Bheki Mseleku seems to fit well with today’s blue skies. Enjoy!

62. Another Scottish musician equally at home with jazz as with traditional music and a pianist of extraordinary sensitivity: Dave Milligan. Here he is in trio. An audio of the lovely piece, ‘Going Nowhere’. Just stunning.

61. Loch Indaal takes a deep bite into the southern aspect of the Isle of Islay, the Inner Hebridean island that holds a special place in this writer’s heart – not least because of its gem of a jazz festival each September. Colin Steele’s trumpet is heard sparingly in today’s tune, however it’s too beautiful not to share here. So here’s an audio of his lyrical ‘Sunset Over Loch Indaal’.

60. Until today this writer hadn’t realised Glasgow/Amsterdam-based bassist Brodie Jarvie’s quintet included ‘happening’ Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong. This audio from the quintet is very impressive indeed, so one hopes his international band won’t be strangers to UK shores. ‘Konk, The Giant’.

59. With Glasgow’s iconic ‘Armadillo’ as backdrop, here’s a video which proves that perennially youthful-appearing saxman Paul Towndrow’s playing is the opposite of unevolved. Here in his quartet, with the equally accomplished Steve Hamilton (piano), Alyn Cosker (drums) and Euan Burton (double bass). ‘We Shine The Sun’ is indeed brilliant!

58. Whilst the quarantine continues here in Scotland, so too will these (almost) daily posts of some great Scottish jazz. Today an audio of a Scottish pianist who this writer has been fortunate to hear on many occasions over the years: the wonderful Brian Kellock. Here in duo with Loose Tubes alumnus Julian Arguelles. A truly beautiful playing of Lee Konitz’s ‘Thingin’’.

55. Thanks to guitarist Malcolm MacFarlane for sharing this excellent video of himself and BBC Big Band drummer Tom Gordon. Two first-rate Scottish musicians. Would be great to hear this piece live!

54. Audio of phenomenal pianist Pete Johnstone with, fascinatingly, the transcription of his solo on “Transformation” (Based on Coltrane’s Impressions) CD: Embodying the Light: A Dedication to John Coltrane. Fantastic!
