Loch Indaal takes a deep bite into the southern aspect of the Isle of Islay, the Inner Hebridean island that holds a special place in this writer’s heart – not least because of its gem of a jazz festival each September. Colin Steele’s trumpet is heard sparingly in today’s tune, however it’s too beautiful not to share here. So here’s an audio of his lyrical ‘Sunset Over Loch Indaal’.

60. Until today this writer hadn’t realised Glasgow/Amsterdam-based bassist Brodie Jarvie’s quintet included ‘happening’ Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong. This audio from the quintet is very impressive indeed, so one hopes his international band won’t be strangers to UK shores. ‘Konk, The Giant’.

59. With Glasgow’s iconic ‘Armadillo’ as backdrop, here’s a video which proves that perennially youthful-appearing saxman Paul Towndrow’s playing is the opposite of unevolved. Here in his quartet, with the equally accomplished Steve Hamilton (piano), Alyn Cosker (drums) and Euan Burton (double bass). ‘We Shine The Sun’ is indeed brilliant!
