Cool article about what might be going on in a Jazz singer’s brain, by Melissa Forbes, University of Southern Queensland. Nice mention of Raymond MacDonald & Graeme Wilson’s book on the primacy of improvisation, ‘The Art Of Becoming’ (2020).

Interesting item (which resonates with many other similar studies) from the recent Edinburgh International Culture Summit 2020 Special Edition, The Transformational Power of Culture. “Making Connections: The impact of music on brain development” from Assal Habibi, Assistant Research Professor of Psychology at the Brain and Creativity Institute, University of Southern California.

Not Scottish jazz, but totally brilliant nevertheless ; ) The phenomenon that is the Sun Ra Arkestra was due to play here in Edinburgh last month, but of course the present pandemic meant that event was cancelled. Hopefully it won’t be long before they tour through Scotland again, perhaps outing some new tunes.
